Frequently asked questions

Everything about earning points, winning prizes, and redeeming rewards on XP Hop.

Getting started

What is XP Hop?+

XP Hop turns your local area into a game. You complete real-world quests at nearby businesses — check-ins, photos, QR scans, receipts — to earn points, badges, and entries into cash-prize drawings.

Where is XP Hop available?+

XP Hop is live across Connecticut — all eight counties, from New Haven and Fairfield to Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New London, Tolland, and Windham. Set your city in your profile and we'll show you quests in your county. New towns and businesses are added every week.

What kinds of quests are there?+

Quests come in several types — check-ins, photos, QR scans, receipts, purchases, social shares, multi-stop routes, events, and more. You can browse by type or by county to find quests that suit how you like to play.

Can I use XP Hop on my phone?+

Yes. XP Hop is a web app that works in any mobile browser and can be installed to your home screen for a full-screen, app-like experience with notifications.

Points & rewards

How do I earn points?+

Pick a quest, complete it in the real world, and submit proof (a photo, QR code, GPS check-in, or receipt). Once our team approves the submission, the quest's points are added to your balance.

How quickly are submissions reviewed?+

Most submissions are reviewed within a day, and many low-risk ones are approved automatically. You can track status anytime from your Activity feed.

What can I do with points?+

Redeem them in the rewards marketplace for perks and deals from local businesses. Points you earn also reflect your level and standing on the leaderboard.

How do I redeem a reward?+

Choose a reward in the marketplace and confirm the redemption. You'll get a code to show the business, which their staff verifies and marks as fulfilled — no printing required.

How do levels and ranks work?+

Every point you earn counts as XP toward your level. As you level up you climb through ranks — Novice, Explorer, Adventurer, Hero, Legend, and Mythic — which show on your profile, the leaderboard, and your progression page. Tougher quests award more points, so they level you up faster.

How do badges work?+

Badges are milestones you unlock automatically — for streaks, number of quests completed, prize wins, and more. They show on your profile as you progress.

Prizes

How do the cash-prize drawings work?+

Some quests award entries into periodic cash-prize drawings in addition to points. The more eligible quests you complete, the more entries you have. Winners are drawn at random and notified in the app and by email. See the Sweepstakes Rules for full details.

Do I need to buy anything to win?+

No. XP Hop is free to play and no purchase is necessary to enter or win a cash-prize drawing. You earn entries by completing eligible quests. Full details are in the Sweepstakes Rules.

How do winners get paid?+

When a drawing closes, a winner is selected at random from eligible entries and notified in the app and by email. Recent winners are posted on our Winners page. Payout details follow the official Sweepstakes Rules.

Account & privacy

Is XP Hop free?+

Yes — creating an account and playing quests is free. Businesses pay to run sponsored quests and rewards.

How do referrals work?+

Invite friends with your personal referral link. When someone you invited signs up and completes their first quest, you both earn bonus points.

How do I control notifications?+

Open your profile and use the Notifications section to toggle push and email categories independently, or turn them off entirely.

Is my data private?+

You control your public profile — turn it off in Account settings and your name won't appear on public pages like the leaderboard or winners list. We never sell your personal information. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.

Why was my submission rejected?+

Submissions are reviewed to keep quests fair. Common reasons are unclear proof, a photo that doesn't match the quest, or a location/receipt that couldn't be verified. You can usually try again from the quest page.

For businesses

How do I add my business?+

Create a free business account, add your profile and location, and publish your first quest — a check-in, photo, QR scan, or receipt task. See the For Businesses page to get started; we can even draft the quest copy for you.
